Do I need to worry about mosquitoes or the sun?
A little preparation covers both. How to keep mosquitoes away in the rainforest and stay comfortable under the tropical sun.
A little preparation covers both.
Mosquitoes are more common in the rainforest and lowlands than on the breezy beaches, and some carry dengue and Zika. Use an insect repellent with DEET, picaridin or oil of lemon eucalyptus, especially at dawn and dusk, and wear long sleeves on rainforest walks. If you are pregnant or planning a pregnancy, please read the CDC's Zika advice before you travel.
The sun is strong this close to the equator, even on cloudy days. Use sunscreen, wear a hat, drink plenty of water, and take it easy in the middle of the day.
