What can I do on a free day?

How to make the most of an open day, and where to eat.

Free days are some of the best days of a trip. Here's how to fill them:

  • Ask us. Tell us where you are and what you like, and we'll suggest what's nearby. We're happy to book a dinner reservation too (see Can you arrange something special?).
  • Ask your hotel's front desk. They live nearby and know what's good that week.
  • Add a tour. With a few days' notice, we can book one for you (see How do the tours work?).
  • Eat like a local. Look for a "soda": a small local restaurant serving a "casado", rice and beans with meat or fish, salad and plantain.

Getting there: your hotel can call a taxi, Uber works in some areas, or ask us for a quote on a private transfer (see How do the private transfers work?).
