Hotels, transfers and tours run as normal on holidays, but a few dates are worth knowing, starting with Semana Santa.
Shops and restaurants in tourist areas keep sensible hours, but a few dates are worth knowing.
On national holidays, banks and government offices close. The biggest are Semana Santa, Easter week (see When is the best time to visit Costa Rica? for the dates), when many businesses also close on Holy Thursday and Good Friday and the whole country heads to the beach; 15 September, Independence Day; and Christmas and New Year.
